Event In Leicestershire

Saturday 29th June, 2019  -  Sunday 30th June, 2019 Weekend Event June, Leicestershire No comments yet.

About the Steam On Rutland Water

For one weekend this summer, the peaceful serenity of the Rutland Water Nature Reserve will give way to the sights, sounds, and smells of the Steam on Rutland Water Rally. The event will be held at the Rutland Water Visitors Centre located just off the A606 between Oakham and Stamford.

Featured at the Steam on Rutland Water event will be the steam engines, tractors, lorries, motorbikes and cars as well as fairground rides for the kids and a licensed bar for adults to escape from any child induced anxieties.

The schedule of events and list of exhibits is always well received -- and with the proximity of Bugtopia The Zoo across the street don’t be surprised if a few creepy crawly reptiles make the scene (just kidding!). There is sure to be plenty of food and activities for every member of your family, including arena events, motorcycle sidecar exhibits, and live demonstrations that will answer the primary question of today’s youth: How did they survive without smartphones?

The annual weekend event will last for two days and is organised by four people named Charlotte, Tom, Audrey, and John. New exhibitors and anyone seeking more information will need to contact them via email or via their online form.

Entry To The Event

The gates open at 10:00 p.m. and stay open till 5:00 p.m. See the official site for entry fees and further details.

Somewhere to Stay in Leicestershire

If Mother Nature cooperates, the Rutland Water reservoir location is a camper’s paradise with no less than 6 camping grounds near or on the water and another dozen or so more nearby. Tent campers are welcome at Rutland Water Camping located right in the centre of the reservoir and surrounded on three sides by water. If the weather is bad, just pack up that tent and head to Hambleton Hall, a luxurious and beautifully run country house hotel, and hope that a room is available. If not, have a great meal prepared by gourmet chef Aaron Patterson and hope the rain passes. There are many other choices of hotels like the three-star Best Western Normanton Park Hotel in nearby Normanton

Getting To Rutland Water Visitors Centre

To get to the Rutland Water Visitor Centre from the east on the A606, drivers will take the Burley Park Way, just east of Oakham, and make a turn to the west onto the A606. Go past Bugtopia The Zoo and make the first sharp right turn onto Sykes Road that leads directly to the visitor centre. From the east, the A1 and A606 meet just west of Stamford. All the driver needs to do is head west on the A606 and make a left turn onto Sykes Road.

Other Things To Do Around The Area

The Rutland Water reservoir was constructed in 1975, but the area is full of other activities and historical attractions. We’ve already mentioned Bugtopia The Zoo with over 75 species of invertebrates and reptiles on display. It is also an excellent place for birdwatching and fishing. If you like stately mansions dating from the 16th century be sure to visit Grimsthorpe Castle, home of the Willoughby de Eresby family since 1516. It houses a marvellous collection of pictures, furniture and other works of art.
