About the The Original Bloxham Rally
Located about halfway between Coventry to the north and Oxford to the south is the town of Banbury. Take the A361 southwest out of Banbury for about 4 miles, and you will be at Bloxham, home to about 3500 folks and the location of The Original Bloxham Rally.
Steam engines, full size and miniatures, and classic vehicles will be on display as well as a slew of other attractions. The regular fairground rides are there for the kids plus animals, and unique items like the pleasant sound of a fairground organ will take you back to simpler times.
Live music and the food tent are just two of the key ingredients at any steam rally, and The Original Bloxham Rally is no different. But if you’re not hungry or thirsty but are curious about how things were done many years ago you will want to see the live demonstrations including blacksmiths, steam-powered saws, and other steam equipment from the past. It’s not all about the steam as you can visit the 'Middle Field' and test your archery and skeet shooting skills.
The 'original' Original Bloxham Rally was held in 1968. The 'Rally Controller' is Richard Millward, who takes care of everything under the sun so to speak. While he admits he is not an expert on the exhibits he says his primary duty is to 'make sure that all our visitors and exhibitors have a safe and enjoyable visit - and that the event runs smoothly and without incident.' Aside from being the coordinator of the security and medical teams he has a small cabin near the bar and fairground. Make sure you instruct your children to go to the Rally Control cabin if they get lost during the event.
Entry To The Rally
The fun begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, but there will be Saturday evening entertainment that rallygoers can enjoy after the Rally activities end. Tickets are £10.00 for those over 16 years of age, £6.00 for ages 5-16 and free for kids under 5. Exhibitors will need to submit an entry form that can be downloaded in PDF form.
Somewhere to Stay in Oxfordshire
Are you looking to 'rough it' for the weekend? If so, caravan (RV campers) are welcome for £40.00, and tent campers can stay for £45.00 for both nights. That price includes entry to the event for two adults and two kids. For those who prefer a posher environment there are many B&Bs and hotels near Bloxham and Banbury like the George Inn or the Horse and Groom Inn to name a few.
Getting To Smiths Fields
Finding the Rally is very easy. From Banbury take the A361 and drive all the way through Bloxham. First you will veer left onto Barford Road and then make a left turn onto Milton Road. In less than a mile you will see Smith’s Field. If you approach from the south on the A361 you will need to take a sharp right turn onto Barford Road followed by the left turn onto Milton Road.
Other Things To Do Around Bloxham
If the historical exhibits at the steam rally have not quenched your thirst for knowledge, be sure to visit the Bloxham Village Museum in the centre of Bloxham village that celebrates the history of the village. One 'must-see' for fans of rugby is the World Rugby Hall of Fame, and Visitor Centre located about 25 miles north of Banbury
Parking is free, and parking for those with disabilities is near the pay gate. Dogs are welcome, but if 'Fifi' must go, be responsible and take care of the problem. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for walking and bring an umbrella just in case of bad weather. Most of all, leave your problems at home for the day or weekend and enjoy fun with activities from past days to the present time.

Hi There .
My name is Steve White and I met up with one of your organisers at this year Netley Marsh Steam Rally . I was displaying my model fairground / showmans / funfair models etc . next to the gentleman whose name I can not recall . I think he stated that he was the model marquee steward . I expressed an interest in doing the two day event for next year . I was informed that I would recieve some info in the post before Christmas , but , this has not occurred .
Please advise ,
Many Thanks ,
Steve White .
