About the Selwood Steam and Vintage Rally
Nestled in the quaint and beautiful rural countryside of Wiltshire is the small village of Southwick. Each summer, the village hosts the Selwood Steam and Vintage Rally to showcase the historical past of the region and steam power.
This unique steam rally is family-centered and offers parents the opportunity to introduce children and grand-children to a culture from a time before our disposable society. Steam-powered equipment and tractors provide a glimpse into a world few still remember. See classic automobiles that were built to last a lifetime.
The rally features a wide selection of vintage equipment and classic vehicles to pique the interest of all visitors. In addition to the machines and vehicles, the rally will offer craft and trade booths, rare collectables, custom, and specialized tools, motorcycles, and even military hardware. Mass quantities of food and drink will be available throughout the weekend.
Selwood Steam and Vintage
The Selwood Steam and Vintage Club sponsor the rally. Each year, the club selects a local charity and donates all of the proceeds from the non-profit event.
Entry To The Rally
Entry to the rally is £8 for adults, £6 for OAP, £4 for children 5-16, and free for children under 5. Family tickets are available for £20. Gates open 10:00am.
Somewhere to Stay in Wiltshire
For a good night’s sleep, look into these and more of the local places to stay. The Moonraker Hotel is not a James Bond themed hotel, rather a Gregorian styled hotel with en suite rooms, a garden house, and a restaurant and bar. Thinking more straightforward? Stay at the Premier Inn Trowbridge, which offers a no-nonsense place to stay with a restaurant and bar and complimentary Wi-Fi. For the outdoorsy types looking for a step-up from the typical campground, try Stowford Manor Farm with a 15th century, family-run B&B, and dog-friendly campground. The Farm offers access to river swimming and a café.
Getting To Bradley Road
To drive to the rally, go south from Chippenham using the A350 around Melksham to the A363. Continue west through the roundabout and straight on Westbury Road. Turn west onto Southwick Road, which becomes Bradley Road to the rally grounds. Or ride the train in comfort to the either the Trowbridge or Westbury stations on the Wessex Main Line where bus transportation is available to the rally site.
Other Things To Do Around Trowbridge
While in the Southwick, visit the Grade II landmark of the Southwick Court Farmhouse dating to 1567. In nearby Bradford-on-Avon is the Grade I listed medieval Tithe Barn dating to the 1300s. For visitors with children, the Southwick animal park, Hope Nature Centre, offers visitors a wild experience. Or go for a relaxing stroll away from the thrilling sounds of the rally through Southwick Country Park next to the rally grounds.
Come to the Selwood Steam and Vintage Rally and discover links to a bygone age of power and strength almost forgotten in this disposable world.
